The water for Glenquicken lochan is fed from our own burn and also from the three natural springs which are now in the centre of the lochan, this mixture allows the fish to experience the "spate" of the burn flowing into the lochan (the burn can rise to fill the inlet pipe in an hour during heavy rain) and also when the burn is low to have a very adequate supply of neutral Ph water from the springs that rise in the granite below and are filtered through the sand and gravel that Glenquicken was once famous for.

The lochan has varying depths of water (deepest over 30ft shallowest 4ft) with an average depth of 16ft.

The bed of the lochan consists of rock, sand and gravel, peat and clay and it has been dug out and left in ridges creating different depths this allows the trout to experience a more natural environment it also promotes a variety of natural insect food at different depths and allows you the angler more variation in choice of flies and lines to use.

Trout Masters 2010 CompetitionWe are a registered "Troutmasters" fishery this popular national competition is sponsored by Trout Fisherman magazine and our monthly winning fish is normally in excess of 14 lb the largest fish caught to date is a rainbow trout of 24lb 5 oz.

The lochan is well stocked with rainbow trout the smallest being 2lb and the largest are well into the double figure scale (with a few real monsters) enough of these big fish are stocked to ensure you have a fair chance of catching one. The overall stocking of the lochan is no less than 150 fish per acre.

The fishery now has the added attraction of having tagged fish released in the lochan, anglers catching one of these tagged fish are automatically entered into a monthly prize draw when the minimum prize will be £250.00 these lucky anglers will also win a bottle of wine of their choice on the day.

Trout Fisherman MagazineWe have a comfortable Fishing "Kabin" on site where free Tea and Coffee are always "on tap" and a selection of hot food is available to order. A selection of flies (hand tied by my wife and son) and leaders etc are also available for purchase.

Beginners are welcome and if you require tuition this can normally be arranged at a modest cost per hour (time permitting) and needs to be booked in advance. Rods, reels and nets are available for hire if required.

We can now offer 1.5 miles of singlebank fishing on the Palnure, this local water being partly tidal boasts 10 pools that hold abundant numbers of seatrout and salmon when conditions allow.

All legal methods are allowed (no shrimp) and worming the pools by use of a float or trotting the streams can be as productive a way as any to tempt the migrant inhabitants.
